Fossil Fantastic Days and Weekends

fossil-fantastic-days6Join the Warden Team at the Centre for a whole day or weekend of fossil hunting and activities for families and children. Lots of fun for everyone!

If you have ever wanted to try your hand at fossil collecting, then join us for a full day of fossil fun aimed specifically at families and children.

Our experienced wardens will be delighted to share their knowledge and experience with you. You have the option to book in for just one day, a whole weekend or a choice of two separate days within the scheduled dates.

Our next Fossil Fantastic day event will be held Saturday 18th November 2017.

Saturday 18th November 2017

9.30am - Welcome to the Centre

10am-10.30am - Fossil Talk. Learn all about the prehistoric life of Charmouth's Jurassic Seas and how to find fossils.

10.30am-1pm - Fossil walk. Find your own Jurassic Fossils with the help of our Wardens out on the beach.

1-2pm - Lunch (not provided).

2-3pm - Fossil activites. Ammonite Slice Polishing and Microfossil Mayhem for the children.

2-3pm - Jurassic Lecture. The adults get a chance to learn more about prehistoric Charmouth from our Palaeontologist.

3-4pm - Tea and Cakes (provided!) and fossil identification. A chance to get your fossils identified by our Warden team and receive tips on how to prepare and preserve your finds.

 Fossil fantastic days and weekends are a great introduction to all aspects of fossils and the Jurassic Coast aimed specifically at children and families. Places are limited so please call (01297) 560772 to check for availability.

The Centre is situated on England’s World Heritage Site 'Jurassic Coast' and right in the heart of fossil hunting country. We have been helping people enjoy the coast for over 20 years, with information on a wide range of subjects from fossils and geology to marine life and the surrounding countryside.

Who does it cater for?
Enthusiastic children and parents who want to discover more about fossils. Suitable for age 6 years and upwards only. All children must be accompanied by a full paying adult.

  £25 Adult, £20 Child
Weekend or two separate days: £45 Adult, £35 Child (Discounted rate)

 
Information Pack:
On receipt of payment the Centre will send you an information pack with directions, local accommodation and transport links, as well as information on what to bring, suitability of clothing for the day/weekend and health and safety information.


Lunchtimes:
There are two pubs and a small café in the village (5– 10 min walk from the Centre) which serve both hot and cold food, or you are quite welcome to bring a packed lunch into the Centre. The Centre will provide you with a hot cuppa!


Accommodation:
If you wish to make a weekend of it, there are many small B&Bs in the area and also hotel accommodation. If you wish to make enquiries beforehand, please find details of the two local Tourist Information Centres below:

Due to the outdoor nature of this event, the warden team reserve the right to adjust the programme in the event of adverse weather conditions. We operate a strict health and safety policy and all activities are fully risk assessed. The Centre is insured to carry out fieldwork and outdoor events.
