MARINE ACTIVITIES
The marine life of Lyme Bay and Charmouth is diverse and fascinating. We run two quite different marine activities; ‘Rockpool Rambles’ and ‘Plankton Trawling’.
Rockpool Rambles (April to September only) are suitable for any age and run over at Lyme Regis on an area called Broad Ledge. A large flat area of rock exposed at low tide makes the ideal place to discover what lurks in the pools that the sea has left behind. Broad ledge becomes cut off quickly and must only be explored on a falling tide. Rockpooling is led by an experienced warden who is familiar with the area and will be able to point out all sorts of wonders that may be missed without a keen eye.
Walks last about 2 hours
Meet by the large metal anchor near Cobb Gate car park Lyme Regis
Cost of Rockpool Rambles: Adult £3.50, Child £2.50
Plankton Trawling (May to August only) is an activity designed to introduce people to the microscopic sea life that can not be seen with the naked eye. It involves a quick paddle with a plankton catching net then some time back in the centre looking at what you’ve caught under a microscope. (Dependant on sea state to run)
Walks last 1hour 30mins. Meet up in the centre.
Cost of Plankton Trawling: Adult £3.50 & Child £2.50
