Lots of fun for everyone! The Centre is situated on England’s World Heritage Site “ Jurassic Coast” and right in the heart of fossil hunting country. Here at the centre we have been helping people to enjoy the coast for over 20 years, with information on a wide range of subjects from fossils and geology to marine life and the surrounding countryside. If you have ever wanted to try your hand at fossil collecting, then join us for a weekend of fun aimed specifically at families and children. Our experienced wardens will be delighted to share their knowledge and experience with you. Itinerary: Day 1 Welcome to the Centre: An opportunity to have a look round the centre and meet your wardens for the weekend! Fossil Hunting walk at Charmouth: Start in the centre with a fossil talk from the wardens and then out onto the beach to discover the Jurassic marine creatures of 185 million years ago! Lunch (not provided) Please see further information Fossil Identification: The warden team will help you to identify and log your fossil finds from the walk. Tea Break ! A hot drink and a slice of cake! Fossil mould making session: Make and paint your own fossil moulds to take home including shark’s teeth, ammonites, trilobites and ichthyosaur jaws! Take your pick! World Heirtage Site Lecture: While the children are busy with the mould making, join the warden for an in depth look and the World Heritage Site Jurassic Coast! Evening: The warden team will provide you with an activity pack for the children, as we know they can be livewires well into the evening hours.
Itinerary: Day 2 Fossil hunting walk at Charmouth: Back out onto the beach again, to try and find some things that we may not have found on Saturday! The centre will provide a hot / cold drink and slice of cake before we go out onto the beach to keep those energy levels up! Lunch (not provided) Please see further information Final Fossil Identification: The warden team will help you to identify and log your fossil finds from the walk. Tea Break ! A hot drink and a slice of cake! Micro Fossils and Ammonite slice polishing: Learn how the professionals prepare their ammonite slices for the shops and polish up your own Ilminster ammonite to take home, follwed by a microscope discovery session to look at micro fossils. NB: The schedule for the above activities will vary according to the tide times on the dates given. Further information Who does it cater for?: Enthusiastic children and parents who want to discover more about fossils. Suggested age 6 and upwards. Information Pack: On receipt of payment the centre will send you an information pack with directions, local accommodation and transport links, as well as information on what to bring, suitability of clothing for the weekend and health and safety information. Lunchtimes: There are two pubs and a small café in the village (5 mins walk from the centre) which serve both hot and cold food, or you are quite welcome to bring a packed lunch into the centre. The centre will provide you with a hot cuppa! Accommodation: There are many small B&B’ s in the area and also hotel accommodation.
