Fossil Roadshows run on various weekends throughout the year and involve a whole day of fossil related activities and displays. Activities can vary from one Roadshow to the next so its always a different experience. Local collectors and experts bring their own fossils to display and are on hand to offer advice and awnser any questions you may have. Below is a list of the kind of thing that you can expect to see at one of our Fossil Roadshows. |

Fossil Hunting Walk – a guided walk to hunt for fossils lead by one of the wardens. Beach art – create a big picture of an ancient creature from pebbles and sand. Ammonite slice polishing – polish your own ammonite slice! Fossil lucky dip – real fossils to be found in this lucky dip! Identi-fossil – a local expert identifies your fossils for you. Fossil preparation demonstration – A local collector demonstrates the tools and techniques used to clean a fossil. Fossil mould making – Make a plaster cast of a fossil and paint it! Dorset Geologists Association exhibition – an informative display from the county’s geologist association and the chance to become a member. Micro fossils – some fossils need to be seen under a microscope, a local expert will tell you what you’re looking at. Some events carry a small charge, usually around £1 or £2. Fossil hunting walks on Fossil Roadshow days are priced the same as normal public fossil hunting walks.
