This talk takes a more detailed look at the fossils of the Lower Jurassic around Charmouth. It introduces the marine environments of the Lower Jurassic, the palaeoecology and modes of preservation and morphology of the fossils. This talk is ideal for A-Level Geology groups or classes and can also act as a precursor to a guided geology walk
After a short introduction and a viewing of our film the warden will lead the group out onto the beach and along the cost stopping at certain points to discuss how the local cliffs and coastline have formed. The walk will cover the local geology, the landslide systems of West Dorset, an analysis of the composition of the beach, local coastal defence schemes and local conservation policy.
The Centre employs two Wardens who are experienced at leading field trips at all levels and have a great deal of knowledge about the local environment and it’s scientific aspects.
