The Wardens Meirel Whaites - Senior Warden What a fantastic location to work!! I graduated in 1996 from the University of Wales with a B.Sc (Hons) Rural Environment and returned to University in 2002 to gain a P.G.C.E (Science). I have had a passion for the natural environment since a very early age and have lived by the coast all my life. For 6 years I worked as a Marine Ranger and Passionate about Plankton Project Officer in Torbay, South Devon before moving to Charmouth in 2002 to become a warden at the centre. I am happiest when out on the beach fossil hunting or with my head stuck in a rockpool, or plankton trawling in the sea. I enjoy working with the public and schools very much as it gives me the opportunity to pass on my enthusiasm and love of the great outdoors to others! Sam Scriven - Assistant Warden I finished my masters in geology at the University of Plymouth in August 2004 and between that and starting my job here I was a volunteer at the Dorset County Museum. I was born and grew up in Dorset and have always had a passion for the landscape and history of the county. I've collected fossils since I was 6 years old and still use my old fossil hammer that I got for my 6th birthday present! Steffie Haynes - Seasonal Warden Growing up on the Isle of Wight, an enthusiasm for all things marine was somewhat unavoidable. I was also bitten by the dinosaur bug whilst spending summers on the Island's Cretaceous coast. I took Marine Geography at Cardiff University and graduated in 2006. Working here at Charmouth allows me to open the door on the wonders of the prehistoric and modern marine world to the older and younger generation alike. Ally Henderson - Seasonal Warden I have been interested in the environment, particularly the oceans, ever since I got hooked on Disney’s The Little Mermaid as a child. In 2005 I graduated from the University of Wales, Bangor, with a BSc in Ocean Sciences. I really enjoy working here at Charmouth, especially taking visiting school children out fossil hunting.
